Hello! I wanted to take a moment to answer a really common question I get about cosmetic acupuncture:

How many treatments do I need?

This is a fantastic question. The standard treatment protocol for cosmetic acupuncture is 2 treatments a week for 5 or 6 weeks (which depends on your age, the condition of your skin and your overall health).

Why is 10 treatments considered the standard for cosmetic acupuncture?

All kinds of acupuncture are cumulative. This means that you need multiple treatments over time to see lasting results. This is true for cosmetic acupuncture, pain management acupuncture, acupuncture for fertility, digestion, you name it. It’s simply the foundation of how acupuncture works.

And the goals of cosmetic acupuncture are to enhance collagen production, blood flow, and lymphatic drainage in the skin. All of this takes time to build to a level where the results are visible. In addition, the more treatments that are completed, the longer these results are likely to last.

Will I need maintenance treatments?

Yes. Maintenance treatments are recommended. After you’ve completed the 10 or 12-treatment protocol, I recommend coming back to the clinic for one cosmetic acupuncture treatment every 4 to 6 weeks. This treatment protocol can be maintained for 2-3 years. After that time, another full treatment protocol of 10-12 treatments is recommended.

What can I do to enhance the longevity of your cosmetic acupuncture results between maintenance treatments?

I love when patients ask me this question because it’s so important for patients to play an active role in our own health.

We talked a little about this in the last email. Between treatments, it’s ideal to maintain all of the diet and lifestyle recommendations that are recommending during treatment to enhance the cosmetic acupuncture itself:

  • – Keep eating adequate protein and Vitamin C so your body has the resources to repair damaged collagen and create new collagen.
  • – Continue with regular exercise, increased sleep time, and anxiety/stress reduction habits.
  • – Keep drinking extra water.
  • – Massage your face regularly with a gua sha stone or jade roller to maintain good circulation and lymphatic drainage of the skin.
  • – Wear sunscreen every day, regardless of the season or sun/clouds.
