Acupuncture for TMJ jaw pain in Seneca Falls, NY

Acupuncture for TMJ Disorder, Jaw Pain, and Clenching

Jaw tension can build slowly over time, or show up suddenly as pain, tightness, or difficulty opening your mouth fully.

Many patients come in with a mix of symptoms, including jaw pain, clicking, headaches, or clenching and grinding, especially during periods of stress.

At Seneca Falls Acupuncture, we work with patients to reduce tension and pain and help the jaw feel more relaxed and comfortable again.

Common TMJ Symptoms We See

TMJ dysfunction can show up in different ways, including:

– Jaw pain or soreness
– Clicking, popping, or grinding in the jaw
– Difficulty opening or closing the mouth
– Tension in the face, temples, or neck
– Headaches or migraines
– Teeth clenching or grinding (day or night)
– Ear pain or a feeling of fullness in the ears

Many patients don’t realize how connected the jaw is to the neck, shoulders, and nervous system until the tension starts to ease.

How Acupuncture May Help TMJ

Acupuncture is often used to reduce muscle tension and support the body’s natural healing response.

For TMJ and jaw tension, treatment may help:

– Relax tight muscles in the jaw, face, and neck
– Reduce pain and inflammation
– Improve range of motion in the jaw
– Decrease frequency of headaches
– Support the nervous system, especially if stress is contributing to clenching

We often include points locally around the jaw, as well as distal points that help the body release tension more broadly.

Acupuncture can be used alongside dental care, mouthguards, physical therapy, or other treatments.

What to Expect from Treatment

Your first visit includes a detailed consultation so we can understand your symptoms, when they started, and what may be contributing to them.

New patient appointments are 90 minutes and include both discussion and treatment. Follow-up visits are typically 60 minutes.

Many patients begin with weekly treatments, especially if symptoms are more acute, then space visits out as the jaw becomes more relaxed and stable.

Some people notice relief quickly, while others experience gradual improvement over several weeks.

Our Approach to TMJ Care

We take a whole-body approach to jaw tension.

This includes:

– Looking at how stress and the nervous system are contributing
– Assessing posture, neck, and shoulder tension
– Treating both local pain and broader patterns of tension
– Creating a treatment plan that fits your lifestyle and goals

Our goal is not just short-term relief, but helping your body stay more relaxed so symptoms are less likely to return.
