Acupuncture for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome symptoms in Seneca Falls, NY

Acupuncture & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: Support for Pain, Stability & Quality of Life

If you’re living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), you already know how much connective tissue affects everyday life — from chronic pain and joint instability to fatigue and slow recovery from injuries.

While there’s currently no cure for EDS, many people look for supportive therapies to help manage symptoms and improve their overall well-being. One option that continues to gain interest is acupuncture.

At Seneca Falls Acupuncture, our acupuncturist Melody Osgood, L.Ac. has a special interest in working with EDS patients. As someone who has EDS herself, she understands firsthand the challenges that come with joint hypermobility, pain, and connective tissue disorders.

Why Some People with EDS Consider Acupuncture

Acupuncture may help reduce common symptoms related to EDS, such as:

  • – Chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • – Joint instability or muscle guarding
  • – Neck, shoulder, hip, or low back pain
  • – Muscle tension around hypermobile joints
  • – Headaches or migraines
  • – Sleep disruption
  • – Stress and nervous system overload

Acupuncture is gentle, non-pharmaceutical, and focuses on the nervous system, circulation, and muscular balance — all of which can play a role in how the body manages pain and movement.

How Acupuncture Can Help Support You

Although everyone’s experience is different, acupuncture may help by:

✔ Increasing circulation to muscles and connective tissues
✔ Encouraging relaxation of overworked/stabilizing muscles
✔ Reducing nervous system reactivity and pain sensitivity
✔ Supporting sleep and improving stress regulation
✔ Improving proprioception and muscle awareness

Many EDS patients describe feeling:

  • – “More grounded”
  • – “Less tense”
  • – “Like my muscles aren’t gripping as hard”
  • – “More comfortable moving through my day”

What to Expect at an Appointment

Each visit is tailored to your individual needs.

At your first visit, Melody will discuss your current symptoms as well as your health history, to get an idea of how your different body systems are working together.

Acupuncture is holistic and we always try to address the root cause as well as the symptoms.

After discussion, Melody will gently insert acupuncture points at various areas of the body, typically including ankles, knees, wrists, and elbows.

Then you rest in the quiet room for about 30 minutes. Afterwards, Melody comes back and removes the needles, and you can take your time getting ready.

How Many Treatments Are Recommended?

The typical course of treatment is once per week for eight weeks. After that, the goal is to try to space out treatments and see if you can go 2-4 weeks while still feeling great.

Many of our EDS patients end up on a monthly maintenance schedule.

We find that regardless of the symptom or condition, with acupuncture, it’s always easier to maintain your good results, than it is to let the pain build up again and have to start from scratch.

Meet Melody Osgood, MS, L.Ac.

“Working with EDS patients is close to my heart because I’ve been in their shoes. Managing hypermobility is a long game — my goal is to help patients feel more supported in their bodies and more in control of their pain.” — Melody Osgood, L.Ac.

Because she works with EDS clinically and has personal experience, patients often tell us they feel “understood” in a way that’s rare in healthcare settings. We are thrilled to have her on our team.
