Do you have text neck from looking down at your phone or laptop all day?
Tight shoulders that creep up toward your ears when you’re stressed?
Or maybe an old injury that just never seems to go away?
Whatever the cause, acupuncture can be a highly effective and natural way to relieve neck pain and restore comfort and mobility.
Why Neck Pain Happens
We treat patients for neck pain all the time at Seneca Falls Acupuncture. Neck pain is incredibly common — especially in our tech-heavy, stress-filled world. Between poor posture, long hours at a desk, and tension that builds up when we’re anxious or overwhelmed, the muscles of the neck and shoulders often become tight and inflamed.
When this tension becomes chronic, it can reduce blood flow, irritate nerves, and cause headaches, stiffness, or that dull ache you feel at the base of your skull.
That’s where acupuncture comes in.
How Acupuncture Works for Neck Pain
Acupuncture uses very thin, sterile, disposable needles placed at specific points on the body to restore healthy circulation and release muscle knots.
Here’s what happens during and after treatment:
Releases trigger points to relax tight muscles and reduce knots (“text neck,” we’re looking at you)
Improves blood flow to local tissues, including muscles and connective tissue
Reduces inflammation to help irritated nerves and joints calm down
Encourages endorphin release — your body’s natural pain relievers — promoting comfort and well-being
Regulates neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine, which can decrease your sensitivity to pain
💡 Acupuncture is like a gentle nudge that helps your body turn down the “pain volume” and shift into healing mode.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
Acupuncture is cumulative — meaning the effects build over time.
For most people with neck pain, we recommend:
👉 One treatment per week for about eight weeks.
After that, we’ll gradually space treatments out every 2–4 weeks, depending on how you’re feeling.
Some patients choose to continue monthly “tune-up” treatments as part of their wellness routine to prevent stiffness and manage stress — especially if their work or posture tends to aggravate their neck and shoulders.
What to Expect During Treatment
Acupuncture for neck pain is very relaxing, and most patients take a nap on the treatment table.
You’ll rest comfortably on a treatment table while tiny, hair-thin needles are placed in specific points on your neck, shoulders, upper back, and even your hands or feet. That’s right, points far away can help your neck!
Most people describe a sense of calm or heaviness in the body — often followed by deep relaxation or even a nap.
Afterward, the goal is for your neck to feel lighter, looser, and easier to move.
