Patients often notice smoother skin texture, a healthier glow, softer fine lines, and improved skin firmness. Results develop gradually over time as collagen production increases.

What is Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy)?

Microneedling is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, pore size, scars, and stretch marks, and to reveal firmer, smoother skin and more even skin tone.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive technique that creates “microchannels” in the skin. This triggers the body’s own healing process to produce more collagen and elastin and enhance cell turnover for younger-looking skin.

Microneedling also allows for greater absorption and effectiveness of skincare products (such as plumping hyaluronic acid), up to 3000% in the research.

What kind of results can I expect from microneedling? How soon can I expect results?

Microneedling can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and acne scarring, as well as smooth and firm the skin. It also increases skincare product absorption up to 3000%, which means better efficacy for skin products.

While many patients notice that their skin looks more plump and hydrated about a week after their first treatment, the results of microneedling are cumulative. Each treatment enhances collagen production, but the results may not be visible until after several treatments, because each treatment builds on the previous one.

How many treatments are needed?

In general, three to four microneedling sessions (once per month) are required to see results. This depends on the age of the patient, because skin cell turnover (healing and renewal of new skin cells at the surface of skin) slows with age.

Patients age 70 and above should plan for five to six microneedling treatments.

Treatments are always spaced a month apart from each other to give skin cell turnover sufficient time to complete and heal before the next treatment.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling creates extremely tiny “micro-traumas” in the skin (also referred to as “microchannels).

The body’s natural reaction is to trigger a healing response in the skin. This includes increased circulation (blood flow), which brings oxygen and other nutrients the skin needs to heal and repair the area.

Repairing the skin includes production of proteins, which happen to be collagen and elastin.

With repeated treatments, this increase in collagen and elastin after microneedling can give the skin a smoother, healthier appearance as well as reduce fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acne, and acne scarring.

Ready to for smoother skin?

Why chose Seneca Falls Acupuncture for microneedling?

At Seneca Falls Acupuncture, we believe skincare should feel thoughtful, personalized, and grounded in your overall health, not rushed or one-size-fits-all.

Our boutique clinic is conveniently located in the heart of the Finger Lakes, and we intentionally schedule enough time with each patient so your treatment never feels hurried. We focus on creating a calm, comfortable experience while helping you work toward smoother, firmer skin.

We use carefully selected skincare products that avoid ingredients commonly associated with hormone disruption or bioaccumulation. This matters because microneedling temporarily increases absorption of topical products, allowing ingredients to penetrate more deeply into the skin.

Our clinic has been voted Best Acupuncture Practice in the FLX Finest awards three years in a row from 2023–2025, and we’re grateful to have earned more than 100 five-star Google reviews from patients throughout the Finger Lakes region.

As licensed acupuncturists in New York State, microneedling falls within our professional scope of practice. Our background in cosmetic acupuncture also gives us a broader understanding of skin health, circulation, and whole-body wellness, which many patients appreciate when seeking a more natural approach to skincare.

Most importantly, we want you to feel comfortable, informed, and cared for throughout the process.

Microneedling Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there anyone who shouldn't get microneedling?

Microneedling is not recommended for:

  • – Pregnant patients, although pregnant patients can get nanoneedling (non-needle treatment with effects similar to microdermabrasion).
  • – Active shingles
  • – Active cold sores
  • – Open wounds on the face
  • – During flare-ups of skin diseases
  • – Discoid Lupus
  • – Active cancer treatment
  • – Radiation to the skin within one year
  • – Keloid scarring
  • – Scleroderma
  • – Accutane within last 3 months
  • – Wait two weeks post-filler or Botox
  • – Pause Retinol (Retin-A) products 7 days before microneedling

Does microneedling hurt?

Microneedling should be a comfortable experience. We use a high-quality topical numbing cream on the skin before microneedling so that you don’t feel much during treatment. (It is standard procedure to use numbing cream during microneedling.) The numbing effect wears off after about two hours.

What to expect after microneedling and aftercare:

You will be a little bit red after treatment for about 12-24 hours. This is normal and will fade.

It’s also normal for skin to feel slightly dry, slightly itchy, or tight the day of treatment. Apply the hyaluronic acid serum that is included in the Skincare Kit we give you as part of your treatment and this will make your skin more comfortable.

There are a few important restrictions in the 24 hours after microneedling, to keep your skin comfortable and get the best results:

  • – No sweating for 48 hours, which means no exercise, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs.
  • – No makeup for 24-48 hours to avoid clogging the pores.
  • – Stay out of the sun for 24 hours.
  • – No swimming (ocean or freshwater) for 3 days.
  • – No skincare with AHAs like glycolic acid, retinol, Vitamin C, or enzymes for 3 days.
