Microneedling

Enhance collagen production.

Reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and acne scarring.

Smooth and firm the skin.

What is Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy)?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive technique that creates “microchannels” in the skin. This triggers the body’s own healing process to produce more collagen and elastin and enhance cell turnover for younger-looking skin.

Microneedling is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, pore size, scars, and stretch marks, and to reveal firmer, smoother skin and more even skin tone.

Microneedling also allows for greater absorption and effectiveness of skincare products (such as plumping hyaluronic acid), up to 3000% in the research.

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling creates extremely tiny “micro-traumas” in the skin (also referred to as “microchannels).

The body’s natural reaction is to trigger a healing response in the skin. This includes increased circulation (blood flow), which brings oxygen and other nutrients the skin needs to heal and repair the area.

Repairing the skin includes production of proteins, which happen to be collagen and elastin.

With repeated treatments, this increase in collagen and elastin after microneedling can give the skin a smoother, healthier appearance as well as reduce fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acne, and acne scarring.

How many treatments are needed?

In general, three to four microneedling sessions (once per month) are required to see results. This depends on the age of the patient, because skin cell turnover (healing and renewal of new skin cells at the surface of skin) slows with age.

Patients age 70 and above should plan for five to six microneedling treatments.

Treatments are always spaced a month apart from each other to give skin cell turnover sufficient time to complete and heal before the next treatment.

What kind of results can I expect from microneedling? How soon can I expect results?

Microneedling can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and acne scarring, as well as smooth and firm the skin. It also increases skincare product absorption up to 3000%, which means better efficacy for skin products.

A series of at least three treatments (up to six, depending on patient age) is necessary for the best results. About a week after the first treatment, patients often see that their skin is more plump and hydrated. This result lasts longer after each treatment.

The results of microneedling are cumulative. Each microneedling treatment enhances collagen production, but the results may not be visible until after several treatments have been completed, because each treatment builds on the previous one.

Does microneedling hurt?

Our goal is to make your treatment as comfortable and relaxing as possible. We use a high-quality topical numbing cream on the skin before microneedling so that you don’t feel much during treatment. (It is standard procedure to use numbing cream during microneedling.) The numbing effect wears off after about two hours and there should be no pain.

What is the cost of microneedling?

  • –  Single Session: $330 (Includes Celluma LED Light, aftercare skincare kit, and numbing cream – Value $91)
  • –  Package of 3 Microneedling Sessions: $900 (Includes Celluma LED light, aftercare skincare kit, and numbing cream – Total Savings = $363)
  • –  Package of 3 Microneedling + Acupuncture Sessions: $1050 (Includes Celluma LED Light, aftercare skincare kit, and numbing cream – Total Savings = $423)

Can microneedling be combined with cosmetic acupuncture?

Absolutely! In fact, we recommend it.

Cosmetic acupuncture and microneedling have the same goals – creating tiny microtraumas to activate the body’s healing response to create more collagen.

But cosmetic acupuncture is much gentler than microneedling. We recommend cosmetic acupuncture at least once a month in between microneedling to enhance your results.

Is there anyone who shouldn't get microneedling?

Microneedling is not recommended for:

  • – Pregnant patients, although pregnant patients can get nanoneedling (non-needle treatment with effects similar to microdermabrasion).
  • – Active shingles
  • – Active cold sores
  • – Open wounds on the face
  • – During flare-ups of skin diseases
  • – Discoid Lupus
  • – Active cancer treatment
  • – Radiation to the skin within one year
  • – Keloid scarring
  • – Scleroderma
  • – Accutane within last 3 months
  • – Wait two weeks post-filler or Botox
  • – Pause Retinol (Retin-A) products 7 days before microneedling

Are there any restrictions immediately after microneedling?

You will be a little bit red after treatment for about 12-24 hours. This is normal and will fade.

It’s also normal for skin to feel slightly dry, slightly itchy, or tight the day of treatment. Apply the hyaluronic acid serum that is included in the Skincare Kit we give you as part of your treatment.

There are a few important restrictions in the 24 hours after microneedling, to keep your skin comfortable and get the best results:

  • – No sweating for 48 hours, which means no exercise, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs.
  • – No makeup for 24-48 hours to avoid clogging the pores.
  • – Stay out of the sun for 24 hours.
  • – No swimming (ocean or freshwater) for 3 days.
  • – No skincare with AHAs like glycolic acid, retinol, Vitamin C, or enzymes for 3 days.
